SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks have signed star defenseman Brent Burns to a $64 million, eight-year contract extension.Burns will count $8 million against the salary cap through the 2024-25 season.The deal announced Tuesday keeps Burns off the free agent market next summer and with the Sharks for the long term.Burns was a finalist for the Norris Trophy last season as the NHLs top defenseman when he helped lead San Jose to its first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
