MCLEAN, Va. -- Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is making no secret of his desire to lure the Washington Redskins to his state with the promise of a new stadium. At the Redskins annual preseason luncheon Wednesday, McAuliffe made a public, passionate case to owner Dan Snyder, boasting about Virginias economy and connection to the military. McAuliffe said that 66 percent of season-ticket holders live in Virginia, which also has a substantial military population.I want to thank the Redskins for being such a great economic driver, McAuliffe said. We have your headquarters. We have your training facility. What else could there possibly be? Let me say this, Dan: Think about Virginia.McAuliffe previously said during an appearance on Snyder-owned radio station ESPN 980 that Virginia and the Redskins were in very serious negotiations on a stadium deal. The teams current lease at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, expires in 2026.Virginia has been lobbying for a stadium dating to 2013 when Bob McDonnell was governor. If it were to happen, it would likely be built in Loudoun County, home of Dulles International Airport, where the Redskins have their practice facility and where a majority of players live.During a radio appearance on news radio station WTOP Wednesday morning, McAullife said any deal would have to make sense for Virginia taxpayers and added that he would give the Redskins the time and respect that a major state employer deserves. At the Redskins luncheon, he trumpeted Virginias military might, saying that the state has 800,000 veterans or active duty personnel -- more than the total population in some locations. That was a gentle jab at Washington city councilmember Jack Evans, who was in attendance. The largest naval base in the world, 27 military installations, the Pentagon -- we have it all, folks, McAuliffe said. So Dan, if youre thinking because you love our military, what a better way to honor our military, our veterans and active duty, than make an easy commute for them to go see a game with the Redskins.Cornerback DeAngelo Hall, a Chesapeake, Virginia, native who played college football at Virginia Tech, has a connection to Richmond -- his aunt, Louise Lucas, a state senator. Asked about bringing the Redskins stadium to Virginia, Hall said: Weve been trying. Well see.In his address to the crowd of 600 plus 27 active players and 24 alumni, Snyder did not respond to McAuliffes stadium sales job.---Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFLStephan Lichtsteiner Jersey . Jeremy Maclin wore a T-shirt that read: "Im that Dude." DeSean Jackson, fittingly, looked like a rap star. Its a new era in Philadelphia. Time to kickoff Camp Chip Kelly. All 90 Eagles reported well before the deadline for arrival Thursday, and they were ready to go and eager to start fresh after last years miserable 4-12 finish under Andy Reid. "Ive been excited every day Ive been here," Kelly said. "I think our guys, Im trying to get that mindset for all of them. Its not, Lets get excited because its the first day of camp, and the third day of camp youre bored. You have to be excited to be out here with an opportunity to work with a bunch of guys. We have an outstanding staff, and the players have been outstanding in terms of their reception and them wanting to get better. "I was excited when I got here on the 16th of January, and its the same today. Just because we get a chance to get back out on the field, I dont think it changes that." Kelly holds his first full squad practice Friday, and the pads come on Sunday when the team moves over to Lincoln Financial Field and opens the doors to fans. More than 60,000 tickets already have been distributed for the practice. Theres quite a buzz circulating in the city and throughout camp, which is being held at the teams practice facility in Philadelphia after 17 years at Lehigh University. "Its like being home," tight end Brent Celek said. "And, you sleep better." Kelly replaced Reid, who was fired after 14 mostly successful seasons in which he led the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, six division titles, five conference championship games and one Super Bowl loss. The team lured Kelly away from Oregon, where he led the Ducks to a 46-7 record in four seasons and turned the program into a national powerhouse. Kelly is known for his innovative, high-octane offence, so its no surprise that hell be in control on game days. Offensive co-ordinator Paat Shurmur, the former Cleveland Browns coach, already said Kelly will be calling the plays.dddddddddddd Everyone is interested to see how Kellys system translates in the NFL. "Its one of the principles that makes the offence successful," Shurmur said. "I think as time has gone on, youve seen that increase-paced, high-tempo type offence work its way into the NFL. Its a lot of what we do and I think its very important." The biggest question, of course, is which quarterback will be operating the offence. Michael Vick, Nick Foles and rookie Matt Barkley are competing for the starting job, and each has expressed confidence in his ability to be the No. 1 guy. Jackson and Maclin, the two starting wide receivers, faced questions about camps most intriguing battle. "Competition level is great," Jackson said. "I think we got four great quarterbacks that can all contribute to helping us win. At the end of the day, I say Vicks been here, hes going on 11 or 12 years and I just think hes accomplished some great things. But Nicks a great player, nothing to take away from him, never said anything bad about him." Maclin didnt have an opinion on the QB competition. "You cant get caught up in that," he said. "Thats a job thats going to come from the coaches. Thats a decision that will come from the coaches. All we can do, as receivers, whoevers out there throwing the ball, be accountable and go out there and make plays for them." Jackson had a busy off-season. He recently released a rap single and video called "Diamonds On My Neck," featuring Snoop Dogg. "Thats my other style," Jackson said of his hip-hop career. "Thats something I like doing. Im definitely a young kid, born and raised where I came from. So thats whats in me. Not to say I dont have a great time and fun having my Snoop in my videos and things like that. Im really able to understand the business. "Its definitely not an easy business to be in, just like football." ' ' '
